Vagina monologues tonight with the roomie! It was funny, of course, and I thought that there were even some stronger deliveries than last year. To be honest, one of them made me teary.
For those who don't know, the Vagina Monologues are a collection of monologues (durr) that tell both funny and saddening stories, all related to female (aka vaginal) empowerment. It's a contorversial student presentation at some schools... it was (and is still for some donors) here at PLU. But the student body - males and females - has embraced it.
The script was written by Eve Ensler. It features the same main speeches each year, with a new spotlight monologue that she writes specifically for each year. The 2011 spotlight was on a woman, Marianne, who was a womens' rights advocate in Haiti and died in the earthquake last year. Proceeds from the show are split between supporting a local organization and an organization that the national V-Monologues group decides upon. Our local group this year is the "Green Dot" movement here at PLU and the national/international proceeds are going to the women and children of Haiti.
It was a really beautiful show and I'm looking forward to the 2012 V-Day. :)
Love&Harmony,
Erin
