66 - Hard Day

It's been a very long, hard day for various reasons.  Luckily there are some wonderful people in my life who helped make it better: HERmonic, Kelvin Adams, the beautiful women who I got to sing with at Leif's memorial today, Sorayah Surkatty, Alex Domine, and - of course - the ever-lovely Stephanie Bivins (aka roommate), among many others.
Thank you for the music, chocolate, hugs, and laughs.  And showing me every way to make yourself look ridiculous with a broken hanger.............. ;)

63 - Packing!

Just a quick picture tonight as I have to get to bed soon because I have to get up at about 4:30 AM to get ready to leave for.... ICCA at UC Berkeley with HERmonic!  The day is here!  Ah!
And tomorrow's picture will also be lame.  It is going to be a picture of my clock when I get up.  I promise.  But I will take plenty of non-lame pictures tomorrow that will go up Sunday.  :)

62 - It's the Little Things

It's the little things that make a day special... like tiny snowmen that someone built all around campus today in celebration of the snow.  :)

58 - Loss

I lost a friend today.
I pray that he has found love.
I pray that he has found peace.
I pray that he is with his family.
I pray that he is in the arms of the Father.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses - as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.  Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.
Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

May God bless and keep you.
May God's face shine on you.
May God be kind to you and give you peace.

57 - Cause Baby You're A...

member of HERmonic a'cappella!  haha.
These are the girls I have gotten to know fairly well over the past month and a half through oodles of rehearsal time in preparation for ICCA West Quaterfinals!  ICCA = International Competition of Collegiate A'Cappella.  We (along with PLU's male a'cappella group, PLUtonic) are heading down to UC Berkeley next Saturday to compete!
Tonight, however, we were auditoning in Tacoma for "Be the Spark".  If we're accepted, we'll be one of the groups performing at Desmond Tutu's last United States appearance in May!  Super exciting!  We sang one of our ICCA songs and Katy Perry's "Firework" for our audition.
Lots of love for these crazy-fun and talented, -sassy, brassy, and classy!- ladies!  :)

55 - THE GRIM!

It is Thursday night.  I am working the desk until 10pm.  I made hot chocolate.  My friends came to visit me and keep me from being bored.  They wound up staring at my hot chocolate and naming the shapes that appeared in the swirls.
Then I videotaped them.

:P
Did I mention that it's Thursday night?

54 - Being Conducting Theorists

Is it called cutting off on 4?  Or cutting off on 1?
Yes, we (roomie, a neighbor, and I) seriously spent at least half an hour discussing this and waving our hands around to see which answer might be right.  We didn't reach a conclusion.

Valentine's Day, "Single's Awareness Day"... however you celebrate, just remember:

Show them the way that you feel.
Things are gonna be much better,
If you only will."

50 - An Interesting Excursion

Today COW (Choir of the West) went to Portland to sing for a Lutheran conference.  It was a fun, song-filled, laughter-filled, weird, angsty, long bus ride kind of day.
Ohhh boy.

That is all.

49 - V-Day

Vagina monologues tonight with the roomie!  It was funny, of course, and I thought that there were even some stronger deliveries than last year.  To be honest, one of them made me teary.
For those who don't know, the Vagina Monologues are a collection of monologues (durr) that tell both funny and saddening stories, all related to female (aka vaginal) empowerment.  It's a contorversial student presentation at some schools... it was (and is still for some donors) here at PLU.  But the student body - males and females - has embraced it.
The script was written by Eve Ensler.  It features the same main speeches each year, with a new spotlight monologue that she writes specifically for each year.  The 2011 spotlight was on a woman, Marianne, who was a womens' rights advocate in Haiti and died in the earthquake last year.  Proceeds from the show are split between supporting a local organization and an organization that the national V-Monologues group decides upon.  Our local group this year is the "Green Dot" movement here at PLU and the national/international proceeds are going to the women and children of Haiti.

It was a really beautiful show and I'm looking forward to the 2012 V-Day.  :)

46 - Music Students are Obnoxious

When gathered in groups of 3 or more.  We had a group of 8 or so at lunch today... meaning we were really obnoxious (this happened when Alex threw his napkin at John and, as you can see, got it right in his glasses) .  :P
But so fun.
Spring semester started today.  It's going to be insanely packed and probably stressful.  But I also think that it is going to be bearable and - dare I say it - fun because I have so many friends together in most of my music classes.  We're in this together.  Woohoo!

44 - Movie Time!

Back to school.  No class tomorrow... it's time for one of my favorite movies!  Yay Howl's Moving Castle!  :D  Hayao Miyazaki is an AMAZING, UH-MAY-ZING animator.  I have yet to see many of his films, but I will see all of them some day!

43 - Happy, Happy!

Done with the opera!  We had our final performance in Trinity Parish Chuch (above) in Seattle this evening.  Show ended at 10:30ish and then we had to make sure all of our sets/props were loaded onto the van back to PLU.  Hence, my dad and I did not get home until after midnight and this did not get uploaded until now.

42 - Tulips

Pink tulips from my roommate and her parents when they came to see the opera.  :)  They are so sweet (the people and the flowers)!  haha.  I love love love having flowers in the house.  I will probably buy myself flowers sometimes just to brighten up the room when I have my own place... or maybe there will be someone to buy them for me?... heehee.

41 - Boring

Is it sad that what got me out of the house the most today was a dental appointment?  And the most exciting news of the day was that I am cavity free?... Oh well.  At least I am getting a chance to relax from school.  :)

40 - Buddy

Meet Buddy!  He is the newest member of the White family!  :)
My parents adopted him from the Seattle Humane Society (in Bellevue, WA) a little under two weeks ago.  I was so excited to come home from school and meet him!  He is, as far as we know, mostly Australian Shepherd, 2 years old, and full of playful energy.  He can run all day long and run some more after that.  My mom and I took him for a long walk this morning and he's already gotten me out to play in the backyard twice today.  Who could resist that face?  :)

39 - An Early (for College) Morning

Up around 8AM today, not because I had to physically go to class, but because I had two essays to finish for that class... betcha can't guess which one that was? hah.  But I finished at about 5pm tonight and submitted them and breathed a "good riddance" sigh of relief!  Well, not really good riddance... I did enjoy the class, just not the stress.
BUT YAY J-TERM IS OVER!!

Today was a beautiful day (literally and figuratively).  On top of finishing J-Term, I also officially changed my major to Vocal Performance.  I literally laughed out loud with joy when I left the music building after that appointment.  Everything about it feels right and I am incredibly excited to discover what lies ahead of me.  :)

Also, I am now home.  And tomorrow's post will feature an Australian...
:P

38 - Holly

(Sorry again for the lateness.  Once J-Term is officially over (aka once my final essays are done aka tomorrow by 8pm) I will not be as tardy with these posts!)
This is Holly.  She is - was - our RA for first floor.... but she graduated and today was her last day at PLU.   :(  :(  :(
It's sad because she was basically the best RA ever - with the best silly-stern looks and most random comments around.  She will be missed.
But this is also the opportunity to welcome our new RA Shayla.  She was in my Philosophy class with me this J-Term and she's pretty cool.  Looking forward to the fun times that will be had in spring!!
